Eligibility Criteria
In considering a nomination, what criteria are important or necessary?
The answer is: A person of any age who has unselfishly helped friends,
neighbors, and strangers; and contributed as a volunteer to our
community.
Nominees should be, or have recently been, a resident of the Town; have
provided services over a period of time; have provided services beyond
those performed as part of paid employment; have been an inspiration to others;
and have performed civic deeds in an exemplary manner outside of a career in politics.
In looking for people who have made our community a better place to live the Board of Directors exercises common
sense and good judgment in selecting recipients.
Any citizen of Needham is invited to submit a nomination for candidates to the Richard Patton Melick Foundation, P.O. Box 920101,
Needham, MA 02492
Supporting information including name and phone number should accompany
the nomination plus two other people who know the candidate.
In summary and in simplest terms: The goal of the Foundation is to recognize
people who have made special contributions which have
benefited others – which by their very nature significantly affect the
quality of life for the Needham community.
Inviting your contribution
The Board of Directors invites you to consider a tax deductible contribution.
In addition to recognizing individuals in the community whose service
exemplifies the ideals of good neighbors and citizenship – thereby
providing models for emulation - there is a further goal:
- The Foundation makes
financial awards and supports special community projects designed
to increase or improve citizenship. For example the Mock town meeting
held at Needham High School each year and the Needham Debate team and
National History day.
Contributions may be sent to:
The Richard Patton Melick Foundation
